WUEDA BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF STORM DRAINAGE IN NIGERIA
Construction of storm drainage which will help result the flooding issues in Delta state kick-off.
The construction of a storm drainage has kick-off in the Southern part of Nigeria. The project which is undertaken by Warri Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA) will help result the flooding issues in the state.
According to report from WUEDA, it was designed to channel flood water directly to the natural water reservoirs surrounding Warri, Uvwie and its environs.
Director General of WUEDA, Comrade Ovouzuorie Macaulay said “This is the only time there is going to be comprehensive work on drainage so that at the end of the day the issue of flood in these areas will be over.”
Macaulay said the agency plans to make Uvwie communities be familiar with contractors so as to avoid any conflict between both parties. He also noted that the project have a completion deadline of 18 months but could be prolong if there is a disruption during construction stage. That is why a meeting will be held to clearly outline different areas of the project.
Meanwhile, there are plans to compensate residents that will be affected by the ongoing construction. That they will be compensate before the demolition exercise take place.
The project has been viewed as a welcome development with Chairman of Uvwie Council, Hon Ramsey Onoyake saying the council will give its maximum support towards the project.
